Finding a condenser-water operating range through staged temperature tests
Measured chiller intensity is compared at inlet temperatures from 20 to 22.5°C. Seasonal tower settings follow the test while plant-level energy balances remain distinct from the chiller-only minimum.
01 · CASE ANALYSIS
Chiller power and tower power trade off
Lower condenser-water temperature can reduce chiller lift, while obtaining that temperature may increase tower fan power. The objective is low total plant power under reliable operation.
The source treated determination of an efficient condenser-water inlet temperature as a separate optimization activity.
02 · CASE ANALYSIS
Measured temperature-intensity values
The test table covers 20.0, 20.5, 21.0, 21.5, 22.0 and 22.5°C. The lowest reported chiller-only value was 0.567 kW/RT at 20.5°C.
The small difference from 0.568 at 20°C requires consideration of meter precision and natural variation. One observed minimum does not establish a universal exact optimum.
| Condenser-water inlet | Chiller intensity |
|---|---|
| 20.0°C | 0.568 kW/RT |
| 20.5°C | 0.567 kW/RT |
| 21.0°C | 0.577 kW/RT |
| 21.5°C | 0.577 kW/RT |
| 22.0°C | 0.597 kW/RT |
| 22.5°C | 0.629 kW/RT |

Seasonal operating settings
The completion material changed winter operation from 26°C to the source’s 20/17°C setting notation, also used in spring/autumn. Summer settings were adjusted with outdoor wet-bulb temperature.
The public source does not fully define the two 20/17°C values here; they are retained as reported rather than assigning an invented on/off-control meaning.
04 · CASE ANALYSIS
Project benefit and system comparison
Completion material lists approximately KRW 60 million/year cost reduction for the item under historical project conditions. It is a source-reported item estimate/result, not a new independent audit.
Include tower fans and, where applicable, condenser-water pumps in a load-normalized plant comparison. Chiller-only intensity does not demonstrate the same reduction in whole-plant electricity.
| Item | Source or verification meaning |
|---|---|
| Winter and shoulder seasons | Source setting notation 20/17°C |
| Summer | Outdoor wet-bulb-dependent settings |
| Item cost reduction | Approximately KRW 60 million/year in completion material |
| Plant power | Chiller + tower fans + applicable pumps |

Build a reliable operating map
Align RT, water flow/temperature, chiller kW, tower kW and wet-bulb. Stabilize each step and observe manufacturer operating limits.
Use load/weather ranges and near-optimal stable bands instead of copying 20.5°C to every machine and season.
